This morning we're delighted to announce the release of our first Android app.
Over the last 18 months or so we've seen colossal growth in traffic coming from smartphones, primarily iPhone and Android devices. Following on from our previous iPhone and iPad app launches, we're delighted to be the first Irish property portal to launch a dedicated Android app.
One of our main aims when working with mobile devices is to ensure as consistent an experience as possible for users across different devices. As such, the app should feel very familiar if you've used our iPhone App or touch-optimised version of Daft.
With this app you can:
- Browse our entire database of properties (sales, lettings, sharing, holiday homes and commercial).
- Browse photos
- Email and call advertisers directly from the app
- View location of property on a map
- Get directions to a property
- View nearby properties
- Refine searches based on price, number of bedrooms and location
- Save your favourite searches and properties to browse through at a later date.
New features
We've also added a couple of new features with this release, integrating with other applications on the Android device.
Google Street View
Where Google Street View imagery is available, each property has a "Show Street View" option. Once you've finished checking out the photographs of the inside of the house, this feature allows you to take a look at the property's neighbourhood and surrounding areas!
Google Navigation
Google's free turn-by-turn navigation can take you from your current location right to the door of the property you wish to view. No more fiddling with paper maps or getting caught out by bad directions!
How to get the app
Scan the QR code below using your phone's barcode reader, or take a look at the application in the Android Market.
Please leave your feedback and suggestions on this blog or email us at support@daft.ie, we’d love to hear from you.

Any chance of an app for sybian 3 platforms like the Nokia N8?
Living in the Uk and am looking to move home but cant access the app here in the UK. Am I missing something?
i downloaded the app, very disappointed that there is no refine button, i don't have the time to scroll down through ninety thousand home's!!
@Heather we don't currently have any plans to develop dedicated Symbian apps. We've developed iPhone and Android apps due to the volume of traffic we've been seeing from both these devices, and released a smartphone-optimised version of the site at http://touch.daft.ie.
@Armand the Daft.ie app is currently only listed in the Irish Android market. If you're in the UK, you should be able to see the Daft.com app. It is optimised for Northern Irish property, but also has the facility to display southern properties if you sync the app with your MyDaft account and have saved searches in there.
@Paddy the refine option is available if you press the menu key when on the search results.
Since launching yesterday we've already received lots of interesting feedback on things we can improve in the next release, so watch this space!
Was waiting for that app for ages! Finally!
Would be nice if it had "serch for simmilar properties" option on the map

Question on the 'droid app for you guys. I've got my log in info in the settings and have been refining searches and saving adverts, problem is that the saved 'driod favourites are not showing in 'my daft' saved adverts (on regular website pages)? Is there a sync issue or am I not logging in on the app properly?

Why won't you let us install from outside Ireland?
@Alberto @Dimitri we've updated the app entry in the market now so that it should be available outside of the Irish market.
@Ted once you have the login info in your settings, you'll still need to explicitly log in on the favourites page to force a sync. Once you've logged in successfully, any subsequent additions or removals of properties should sync automatically.
